>> that was chris matthews after the debate last night asking where was obama? for many the president seemed disengaged during that debate. the debate with charlie chris the republican governor of florida after leaving the party in the race for the u.s. senate. now he's supporting president obama. great to have you here with us today, sir. i want you to take a listen to what former congressman davis said to chris jansing last hour. take a look. >> isn't it telling last night that president obama himself did not bring up bain capital. isn't it telling that president obama himself did not accuse governor romney of causing women to die from cancer because of things that happened at companies he ran? isn't it telling that president obama didn't make much of this 47% gaffe a week ago. >> sir, why didn't the president bring up any of those things? were you watching this wondering that yourself? >> of course. i was watching it and some of the comments that i hear today make me think people were looking for entertainment instead of substance and facts. i was looking for

here's one from mario, pretty sure obama will knock that debate out of the park. and dan tweeted, one can hope but it will be a drawp. people will hear what they want to hear. most minds were made up months ago. if this year's election were judged on the ability to keep things interesting on the campaign trail joe biden would win hands down. his speeches are not the only part of the equationp. there is the matter of his sex appeal. take a look at this. >> since i've been here a number of times over the last 20 years, i knew it was going to be -- you mind if i take my coat off with your permission? thank you. all right. >> check out the buysep flex -- are we really going to show a bisep flex? we missed it. okay. close your eyes. okay. the vp's allure is the subject of a new piece in politico. politico senior washington, d.c. correspondent jonathan allen wrote it and joins me now. jonathan, we did miss the bicep shot, paul ryan has the px 90 thing going on. we've seen the example of joe biden on the trail, joe biden being very smooth, trying to relate and be charmin

>> president obama during the debate said he is the one who is going to raise taxes by letting the bush tax cuts expire. >> but we just played two things back to back that do not match. >> look, he said all look, 20% across the board. i think there were two different things he was speaking about there. he has a very pro-growth policy. he has a policy to create 12 million jobs. >> so are you saying he misspoke in one of those? >> i'm not going to get into whether he misspoke or not -- what i know is he has said all along, 20% across the board for everybody, and that means everybody. to what specifically he was speaking there, i'm not exactly sure. but it's a clear choice what you have. we don't need to get caught up on the back and forth. he is going to put forward pro-growth jobs. and 7.8% is an anemic recovery. that is nothing to celebrate. i remember when president bush was criticized by president obama when i worked for him -- >> but for the past four years, republican have said saying over and over and over, he promised 8%. and it's 7.8 now. >> the reason it's below 7.8% is because

the obama campaign is making an effort to portray romney as having been dishonest in that debate? can that argument be effective when you're trying to reach some of these undecided voters who at this late hour are still in fact undecided. >> i think it's a mistake for the president. it sounds like sour grapes that he wasn't able to stand up to romney who was lying. that's a kind negativity. the president needs to tell what's he wants to do. one of the things was his own agenda was so thin, that he wasn't able to convey to the public that he had an offensive, a effective second term agenda. i think the second thing he has to do is he really has to bear down and answer some more detailed questions about his own agenda, about his own debt reduction plan, which as andrea mitchell pointed out that evening, really has a lot of holes in it. so i think he would be best to not complain about, not lambaste his opponent, but really kind of hit the books, get down to work, portray a more positive agenda the next time around. and for goodness sakes, look at the camera, don't look down. >> you

here's what obama said, here's what romney said at the debate. let's take a listen and talk about it on the other side. >> i'm not looking for a $5 trillion tax cut. what i've said is i won't put in place a tax cut that adds to the deficit. >> governor romney's central economic plan calls for a $5 trillion tax cut. for 18 months, he's been running on this tax plan. now, five weeks before the election, he's saying his big, bold idea is never mind. >> all right. what what's the deal here? >> this is a complicated one. we have from the romney campaign a plan that has been analyzed by an independent group that said it would lead to around $450 billion a year in revenue that's cut from the -- revenue that's not there as a result of these taxes. the obama campaign has then taken this and extrapolated it over ten years, and they have arrived at $5 trillion. well, ten years times $450 billion doesn't get us to $5 trillion. so that's not quite right. but what is true is that the romney campaign, governor romney himself, has not explained what they're goin
